Catalonia is a small country in the North-East of the Iberian Peninsula, now part of Spain. It borders France to the North-East, from the Mediterranean Sea along the the Pyrenees mountain range.
Where is Catalonia? In all four corners of the globe!
Throughout its history, the Catalan spirit of adventure (as well as self-imposed exile, it must be said) has led people to emigrate to other countries. Taking part in the original ventures to the New World (there is much evidence to suggest that Christopher Columbus was Catalan), with a view to trade not conquest, this desire to explore the world persists to this day. Many Catalans leave every year (their hearts remaining at home) to seek new opportunities and contribute actively to the society in which they find themselves. We will be publishing commentary from some of these on the site, to provide another perspective – from Catalonia to the world!
